The Spring Fair takes place just two weeks after the Holy Week (Semana Santa), in a huge area in Los Remedios, to the south-west of the city, next to the river. This is a week of serious dancing, drinking, eating and socializing, with late nights as a rule.
The sheer size of the April Fair's spectacle is extraordinary. From around midday until early evening (especially on Tuesday, the first official day) the Seville society gather around the fairground in carriages or on horseback. There are also daily bullfights, generally considered the best of whole season.
Initially it was in the Prado de San Sebastian but in the late 60s it moved to the neighborhood of the Remedios, which covers more than one million square meters and more than 1000 tents, most of they are private, others relate to partnerships, organizations, companies, etc. where they show their habits and customs in the stands with friends and family.
Inside the tents, decorated with fabrics, lace, cornucopias, paper flowers, consoles, lamps, tables, desks, mirrors, lamps, etc... they sing and dance, the drinks begin to flow, and tapas are served, from around 1:30pm till early next morning. Each tent is equipped with a bar, kitchen and sound system or live performers playing Sevillanas. This is the official genre of folk music in Seville, which has its own set dance. It's worth taking a few classes before the Feria so you don't have to be a wallflower.
Each year, are created a cover inspired by some of the famous monuments of the city, decorated by local artists and illuminated with thousands bulbs that adorn the main entrance to the fairgrounds, which will be lit on Monday to reach midnight. Its light can be seen at night from miles around.
During the day, not only enjoys the Sevillanas, flamenco and the typical manzanilla but you also can enjoy a horse ride up to 2000 hours in which horsemen and horses of great presence, that have been carefully prepared, show off their finery and traditional trimmings.
