The biggest and one of the most impressives squares in Spain the Plaza de España was designed and constructed under the direction of Anibal Gonzalez, perhaps Seville's best known architect, for the 1929 Ibero-American Expo.
An architectural complex designed as a semi-circle of 200 meters in diameter, which ends in the twin towers, crossed by four beautiful arched bridges coated with ceramic, where we can see all arts and crafts building.
Representing the four ancient kingdoms of Spain, surrounded by benches covered with tiles also give reference to the all 48 Spanish provinces, at his side there were some columns with niches in which there were books on literature, history, art, etc. of each one of them.
Its decoration is based mainly on bricks, marble and ceramic giving a touch of Renaissance and Baroque in their towers. The Plaza de España symbolizes the embrace of Spain and its former colonies and looks towards the river as a way forward to America. It was the most expensive building of the exhibition and the only construction after it is the central fountain. Today the building houses the central government delegation in Andalusia and the Captaincy General of southern military region.
